road trip

  • Race is a difficult topic to explore for most Americans and for far too many people, the word is a trigger that raises barriers that put people in a defensive position where they pretend things didn't happen. As someone who travels constantly, I've learned that this isn't just an American reaction - it is a human one. As I travel I must be open to my views challenged as I experience new things. By talking with different people I've been blessed to see, hear, touch, and taste a lot of different perspectives. Combined with my love of history, experiences like this have given me better context to understand complex issues. Even more so though, it has given me the understanding that most things have many sides. I encourage each and every one of you to make an effort to open your minds, visit sites like these and simply take the time to listen, learn, and explore history when you do.

  • The 2020 Lexus LC 500 first attracted my attention at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show for it's absolutely stunning "Flare Yellow" color and it's beautiful lines. I didn't know much more about the vehicle other than that, but I knew I wanted to experience it in person as soon as possible. Thankfully, the folks at Lexus had one available. This isn't exactly a road trip kind of car, though I was quite impressed by the size of the trunk and the level of comfort in the cockpit... even for a big guy like me. So, our plan was to do a day trip exploring San Diego beach towns.

  • Sure, you can fly to a faraway exotic destination but I firmly believe that the journey is often more important than the destination. Certainly, that is true when traveling with good friends and loved ones. That's why I love to take romantic getaway road trips with Heather whenever we get a chance. While not every trip we take is explicitly about romance, some destinations like Beverly Hills just lend themselves to it. Let's take a look at how you can plan the perfect romantic getaway road trip for your partner this year!

  • Drinking and driving is a serious subject and the best option is to hire a driver or assign a designated driver. That isn't the only solution though, but you will have to make some compromises to ensure that you, the car, and those around you remain safe. Over the years I've learned several techniques to stay safe while exploring wineries as well as brewery and distillery tours. Here are my best tips for staying safe while on a wine weekend road trip.

  • The Florida Keys have been a destination for guys looking to get away from it all for generations. Legendary men like Ernest Hemingway along with others including Tennessee Williams and Shel Silverstein have called the area home over the years. While I'm not suggesting that your Florida Keys Mancation should or will turn into a change of residence... after spending a few days exploring the upper and lower keys I can understand how that might come to be! Here's a taste of some of the adventures you can find on an epic guys getaway and Florida Keys Mancation!

  • Taking an epic road trip is my favorite way to experience what it means to be an American. While flying to a great destination is a quick way to get to a destination, with a road trip the journey is the destination. Along the way you get a chance to meet new people, taste new foods, savor new drinks, and spend time discussing various topics with your traveling companions. Last year I got a chance to do a short road trip in California for the launch of the all-new 2019 Toyota Rav4, a vehicle that quickly became one of our favorites. Now we've had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the 2019 Rav4 Hybrid, which aside from one frustrating item is about the perfect mid-sized SUV for a long road trip.

  • A road trip with the guys to explore some new part of the country seems like a slam dunk choice of a guys’ weekend getaway. Unlike flying somewhere, there’s no big upfront cost to worry about and that gives the immediate notion that it’s a cheap way to spend some time together. While this is generally true, road trips have some significant expenses that you need to take into consideration such as price of fuel, wear and tear on the vehicle, food, and lodging along the way.

  • When it comes to modern SUVs, few are good at both on and off-road. They are focused on tuned to compromise and lean towards fuel efficiency on-road - or all out off-road ability. While I can talk for days about the need for more true, body-on-frame SUVs, the Toyota Land Cruiser is the epitome of what an awesome SUV should be. It offers a solid, perfectly refined driving experience with no compromises and brings you back to an era when sitting in the driver's seat of an SUV made you feel special. We took the 2019 Land Cruiser on a road trip to Scottsdale, AZ for Spring Training and it was one of my favorite driving experiences in a long time.

  • Getting stuck on the side of the road is never a pleasant experience any time of year. In winter though, the cold weather, reduced visibility and slick surfaces can make things that much worse. While normally you might be able to walk for help... in the winter that could result in you being hit by another vehicle, getting lost in the snow, or becoming ill from the extreme cold. Here's what you need to make sure you have packed if you are planning a winter road trip.

  • When it comes to mancations, and guys weekends your epic adventure doesn't have to be measured in days... just in awesomeness. That's why I was immediately excited to learn more about what these two guys managed to accomplish. Through a combination of driving and flying, they managed to visit 23 US States in only 24 hours! Let's learn more about how and why they did this incredible adventure!

  • While most people consider road tripping to be something best done during the summer - some of the busiest days on the road happen during the winter holidays. This means that not only do you need to watch out for fellow drivers and general traffic concerns, but also the risk that you might get stranded in snowstorm and need to pull to the side of the road. Even worse is the possibility that you lose control and your car ends up stuck in the snow  waiting for help to arrive. Here's what to do to help make sure you survive getting stranded in the snow on a winter road trip

  • Planning and going on a road trip can be very exciting. You can get to see places you would not visit if you were traveling any other way. You also have the freedom to stay at each one for a long as you want. There are no restrictions because of flight or train times, it is totally up to you. Being safe on a road trip is important though, so you need to do some preparation and planning first.

  • My history with the Chevy Equinox goes back to the very beginning... Heather and I saw one of the very first ones available during a road trip and knew THAT was the car we needed to buy. A few days later, our local dealership got their shipment and we got the second one off the truck. Flash forward a decade and the Equinox is one of Chevrolet's top sellers and here we are enjoying their latest version while flying around mountain roads exploring the Rockies in Colorado. This vehicle has always had a special place in my heart and I'm thrilled to say that Chevy has taken it from a "good car" to one that I would consider buying again.

  • Iceland is a country like no other, with its deep history, friendly locals, interesting culture and stunning landscape. It’s no surprise that Iceland is so popular.

  • You’ve owned a motorcycle for a while now, love it to bits, and would like to take it with you on holiday. Even better - why not make your entire holiday about your motorcycle? A full-on motorcycle trip isn’t just for bearded guerilla soldiers and you can easily make the trip as pleasant as possible by ensuring a few things before you head off.

  • Are you planning on doing some long-distance driving this summer? • Vermont is surprisingly a pretty awesome state for foodies and while I knew of Ben & Jerry's factory tour I was surprised to find oh so much more. From maple syrup to apples to dairy, this state has a lot to offer anyone seeking a different sort of food tour experience. Here's some of our favorite stops...

  • Texas is a fabled land for those those that love freedom and the thrill of the open road. One of our friends, Mike from TheGentlemanRacer.com just came back from an incredible cross country road trip from Cleveland to Los Angeles. Along the way, he spent some time exploring Austin, Texas. Here's some of his favorite motorcycle trails in the area.

  • Mount Washington is the tallest peak east of the Mississippi and it's been a popular tourist destination fo more than a century as enterprising Americans have figured out ways to bring people to the top. While you can ascend to the summit by train, tour van, and even snow cat - our favorite is to drive up it on a fall day to see the amazing colors of New Hampshire's White Mountains and the wispy clouds blowing past you as you climb to more than 6,000 feet in the air.

  • Earlier this summer, I had the awesome opportunity to embark on a more than 4,000 mile road trip from San Diego to northern Montana and back again. When most people think of visiting Montana, they often focus just on exploring parks like Glacier National Park and Yellowstone. Sadly, everything else is "drive through country" for most visitors. That's the fun of a long road trip though, it gives you the chance to slow down and explore a little bit. You never know what you might find! In our case while we could have simply driven from Gardiner Montana (North Entrance to Yellowstone) to West Glacier in one day, we decided to explore a bit instead.
