In business, as in sports it’s great to be recognized. Unfortunately though, it seems like only the quarterback gets the glory. Anyone who’s ever run a business knows though that supporting every great CEO, President, or business owner there are others that deserve their share of the glory too. San Diego’s Top Tech Exec Awards is an opportunity for some of these guys to step out of the shadows, hang out with their peers and be recognized for the super heroes that they really are.
Small business owners like myself face many challenges. Not the least of which is that it can be difficult to scale up, but equally challenging to be successful without doing so. While there are celebrations like “Small Business Week” where consumers are encouraged to support small businesses, the reality is that our struggle continues 24-7-365. Don’t worry though, there are some ways that we can help make those challenges more manageable.
Alongside cops and astronauts I think most of us guys probably thought about being a miner at one point in our childhood. Think about it - you get to work outside, get dirty, play with giant machines and at the end of the day you'll dig up buried treasure. While the fantasy may not be exactly like reality, I was surprised to find out that a lot of that IS how it is.
As you know, I love going to Vegas. It's simply an astonishing place where everything is possible if you have enough time, money, and luck. While the days of $1.99 breakfasts are over, the shows still remain one of the top attractions. One show that I dream of one day attending is Le Reve since it combines everything I love about the Cirque shows - but takes things to the next level. No matter how many shows I gone to, I'm almost always amazed at the lighting effects that they manage to produce. However, I've never really thought about what goes into it and what it might be like to be the guy that makes the magic happen.
Over the past few months, we've had a chance to look at some jobs that people have where you might not have really appreciated all the work they do but it's actually pretty cool. Today, we're looking at Mike Perez, Sous Chef of Hearty Boys Catering in Chicago and what it takes to be the man behind those amazing meals you enjoy at corporate events and celebrations like weddings, retirement parties, and grand openings.
