It constantly amazes me just how many craft beers there are here in San Diego and virtually every weekend there is a beef festival celebrating this fantastic beverage. However, as much as I love seeing the same breweries all the time it's always fantastic to sample some new ones that I haven't tried before. You wouldn't believe it unless you lived here in San Diego, but there are SO MANY breweries here that even 20-30 min north of downtown is a whole other world. It was those North County breweries that made this event special for me and I look forward to exploring more of them individually over the next several months.
This is the 4th year that the San Diego Brewers Guild has organized Rhythm and Brews, and this year it featured 60 breweries, 7 bands, and 2 stages. While the weather was uncharacteristically gloomy for San Diego, no one seemed to mind as they tasted their way through some of the best beer in the country.
While favorites such as Ballast Point, Green Flash, and Stone were in attendance, there were other breweries from North County San Diego, Oceanside, and even out of the state. Among my favorites at the festival was the Strawberry Frackin' Sour from Intergalactic Brewing, and Sun Dog India Pale Lager from Barrel Harbor, which combines the hoppyness I love in my IPAs with the refreshing crisp clean taste of a lager. Finding new favorites like this are what I love about beer festivals since with so many different options it is almost impossible otherwise to find a new favorite beer.
A special shoutout goes to the food vendors as well ... this festival had a great variety of options from Caribbean to Pizza, but special kudos goes to Criscito Pizza. I am not sure if they were really that good or if it was just PERFECT at the time but they were serving up some FANTASTIC pies that weekend. Anyone looking for some great pizza in San Diego should definitely check them out!Joomla Plugins
