# Four Awesome Dash Cams with Local and Cloud Storage Capabilities *By James Hills — Updated April 2024* I feel like dash cams are a lot more popular in Europe and other parts of the world than they are here in the United States. However, as someone who loves gadgets, I've had the pleasure of testing out more than my share of different dash cam devices over the past decade or so. They've come a LONG way in those years and it's fun to see long time leaders like Garmin joined by newer competitors like Nexar, RedTiger, and dozens of smaller competitors who you've probably never heard of before. One of the most exciting segments of the industry though is the rise in dash cams that support cloud storage backup.    **Questions****Key Points****Article Index** ... - Initial dashcams relied solely on SD cards for storage, posing challenges in data management and risk of losing crucial footage. - The integration of cloud storage into dashcams revolutionized the industry, enhancing accessibility and sharing of videos without eliminating SD card usage. - Nexar's Beam GPS Dash Cam stands out for offering unlimited free cloud storage, making it an excellent choice for budget-conscious beginners prioritizing storage. - Cobra SC 400D dash cam combines premium features with cloud storage, adding unique functionalities like live police alerts and UHD 4K video resolution. - Garmin's Dash Mini 2 offers a compact and discreet option with cloud storage capabilities via subscription, catering to those seeking a hidden vehicle camera without compromising on video quality. 1. While these devices are handy for insurance and safety purposes, limited storage presents a massive problem for frequent users. That means users must delete the older footage to create enough space for newer videos. This is the case when recorded and stored footage exceeds the capacity of the SD card. And what does it mean? A loss of potentially vital information. ### Six Things I Learned at the BMW Performance Center A visit to the BMW Performance Center in Thermal ( Palm Springs ), California is a great way to hone driving skills and improve your driving ability.
