Taking a Deeper Look at Keto Recipes - Sausage Bites and Roasted Radishes

Everyone seems to be talking about doing a Keto Diet recently, but I'd never really looked into it that deeply. Plus, One of my restances to going back on a diet like this was how people all too often abuse "Atkins" style diets. There's absolutely no debate in my mind that this style of diet works - I lost over 100 pounds following a very strict regimen ... but then gained more back after quitting. The key to being able to succeed though is focusing on balance and creativity. So, with that in mind I walked around my local grocery store a few days ago and dreamed up two easy to make keto recipes. My conditions for success were: 1) it had to taste great 2) it had to have good colors that were visually interesting and 3) it had to be easy to make. Plus, ultimately it had to follow a fairly strict interpretation of the keto nutrition guidelines.

Ultimate Ham, Apple, and Cheddar Grilled Cheese

I love taking classic items and kicking them up a notch (or three?). One of my favorite lunches to make is a classic grilled ham and cheese. While there’s nothing wrong with simply throwing some random ham and cheese slices between pieces of bread and grilling it – we can do better than that! When you want the ultimate grilled cheese experience, it’s important to focus on the best ingredients available and that’s why this one stars Eckrich Black Forest Ham.

Not Your Dad's Steakhouse - STK San Diego

I love a classic steakhouse. You know, the ones with dark leather booths, heavy shadows, and classic bourbon cocktails. STK San Diego is is not that kind of place! From the moment you walk in, it is very clear that this is not your dad's steakhouse. Instead, it's hip, light, and lively. There is even a DJ on some nights furthering the lounge atmosphere and the cocktails match this chic and trendy environment. Don't be fooled though - while it feels like a cocktail bar, the menu still offers huge steaks and classic sides. There's a sense of youth and urban energy here compared to the uber masculinity of a traditional steakhouse but it hasn't lost touch with why you ultimately chose to spend hundreds of dollars on an amazing meal. This vibe perfectly matches Andaz San Diego hotel where it is located and it is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Don The Beachcomber Original Mai Tai Recipe

When it comes to fruity tropical drinks, the classic Mai Tai is among the most iconic. It's the Pacific Islands version of the classic Caribbean Daiquiri ... or is it? Ironically this classic drink actually originated in California during the tiki bar craze and while two men lay claim to having created it - I DON'T CARE - because the ones found at Don The Beachcomber are the best I've had. It's a more complex recipe and the time and effort is worth it. Here's the recipe so you can make it at home.

While fresh guacamole scooped out of an avocado and mashed right in front of you is almost always the best option, that's not always possible and it's expensive.
