Flagship Sunday Brunch Cruise on San Diego Bay

Let's just start out by saying that Heather and I had a fantastic time. This brunch cruise was an experience that really is hard to compare since it was three distinct things wrapped up into one happy package. For instance, raise your hand if you've ever done a booze cruise with someone you love? Keep your hand up if you've done a harbor cruise that involved a meal ... Ok, now keep you hands up if that food has been great, the service excellent, and the experience was one that you can't wait to do again.  Yeah, not a lot of hands are up still, but that's ok!

You probably haven't had the opportunity to sail with Flagship Cruises out of San Diego before.

The company offers several different cruises ranging from whale watching excursions to sunday brunch, and even a jet boat. However, despite this diversity of types of cruises offered and my initial scepticism that they might be a jack of all trades and master of none, I can heartily recommend it and I will almost certainly go again. Heck, I'd even recommend their other experiences based on this one!

Osetra Fish House - San Diego Wine Angels, Raw Bar, and Fresh Seafood

There's no shortage of restaurants in San Diego's Gaslamp quarter, but one category that seems weak (compared to steaks, Italian, etc.) is seafood. Osetra is one of the few in this crowded area, so when I got invited to check it out I was extremely excited for the opportunity. After all, we had already visited it's sister properties Greystone Steakhouse and Osteria Panevino and had fantastic experiences at both of them.

Osetra is owned by the same group as those others, but it is distinctly modern and almost chic compared to the other two, with features like a wine angel who "flies" up and down the two-story wine rack to pick out your selection, an extensive raw bar, and even sushi.

It's Rum Time and I'm Celebrating by Raising a Glass to Some of History's Greatest Moments

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Rums of Puerto Rico . All opinions are 100% mine.

I simply love spirits. Just the name inspires something amazing and the process to distill them has driven men to create amazing machines and explore chemistry in ways they previously might not have. In particular, I am a fan of Puerto Rican Rum since well ... rum is one of my favorite spirits and Puerto Rico is one of my favorite Caribbean islands! Are you ready? I am, It’s Rum Time!

One thing that I did NOT expect however was that this industry would produce an incredibly innovative video campaign that simultaneously helped educate fans about the more than 450 years that Puerto Rican Rum has been enjoyed while being completely entertaining and extremely well produced.

While the episodes take some liberties in imagining how some of the greatest events in the world were celebrated, the science behind such accomplishments such as the quest of indoor lighting by  Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison are essentially accurate. That being said however, it would not be surprising to me if people first experiencing electric lights did celebrate with a toast of Puerto Rican rum - I know I've certainly raised a glass for far lesser causes :)

Beyond the video series, the It’s Rum Time site also has drink recipes, spotify playlists, and  matching up to the different episodes. Additionally it also features the Puerto Rican rum brands represented including: Bacardi and Don Q that I am sure you are familiar with already, but also Ron del Barrilito, Trigo, Caliche, Caray, and Club Caribe.

Puerto Rico is a fantastic island with amazing people, food, and yes some of the best rum in the world, so this sort of campaign is very natural for them. Puerto Rico is the Rum Capital and it is virtually the natural spirit of Puerto Rico. Everyone I have met during my travels from there looks at their personal recipes and favorite distilleries as a source of national pride.

So to that sense of passion for heritage and culture I salute them with a toast of Bacardi Ocho to enjoy while we wait for the next episode to be released from the It's Rum Time site!

When I'm Hungry Bars Recipe - Because God Knows I Need it Sometimes!

I get hungry like everyone sometimes and honestly I'm not myself when that happens. You Probably get the same way but that's when I like to grab a Snickers. Yeah, I know that sounds like a cheesy intro to another sponsored post, but it's the truth. Traveling can be tough with changes in time zones, unfamiliar locations, and lets face it you aren't at home with easy access to your fridge and microwave either for a quick snack. However, one thing I love about Snickers is that it has the perfect balance of sugar sweetness, chocolatey deliciousness, and protein from the peanuts (or almonds). It's really a great snack to stick in my backpack for those moments when you need something to pick you up a bit.
