Are you looking for a new travel destination this summer? While there's something to be said for tradition, the excitement of trying something new can make things a lot of fun. With the world we live in today, there are so many options all around the world, so here's some tips to help you find somewhere new and exciting to explore this summer!
We read about the Holiday Generator from Travel Republic this week and thought it was a cool tool to spark your imagination. After playing with it a bit, I started to think of what other ways are out there to find a new travel destination to explore this summer. Here's some of my tips ... let us know your ideas in the comments below.
Identify What You Enjoy Doing
The first step in picking a great place to visit is to know what sort of summer vacation you want to have. This way you aren't looking for quiet lazy mornings in New York, or hip urban eateries in a cozy rural town.
Look For Similar Alternatives
Now that you've identified what it is you enjoy doing, it's time to pick a destination to enjoy a similar activity. As a quick example, let's say your annual tradition was to visit Darlington for a NASCAR race. How about switching things up for a change and visiting Charlotte for a race instead? Here you can still get the thrill of the race, heritage and history, plus tons of other excitement and it's close to the airport so easy to get in and out if you are flying in.
While these destinations are clearly radically different, both allow you to you can still experience the thrill of NASCAR.
Ask Friends On Social Media For Advice
While I wouldn't recommend following their advice 100%, your friends on Facebook and Instagram can be a huge help when it comes time to asking for ideas. Chances are these people have been places that you'd love to visit and they may even know you better than you do since they see what you like to share.
Buy a Map and Have Everyone Put a Pin To Mark Their Picks
This might sound hokey, but you can either print out a map from the Internet or buy one cheap on Amazon. Get everyone in your family or your group of guy friends to get a pin and mark a place they've want to visit. Do it one-by-one and then come back into the room and have a discussion about the places that were marked. You might not all agree on one destination but at least you'll be able to come up with some new ideas. By working together and thinking about places to go for your summer vacation this way, you are almost certain to find a new idea. At very least you'll be able to have a great conversation and have some fun at the same time!
