Carnival Cruise Warm Chocolate Melting Cake Recipe

One of the things I love about cruising is the food. It's not always the "best ever" but each cruise line has some iconic dishes that fans absolutely crave and savor the memories for months and years after the cruise. In the case if Carnival, their Warm Chocolate Melting Cake is undisputedly one of the best deserts at sea. While virtually all cruise lines offer a variation of a "chocolate lava cake", Carnival's is just that much better and we've got the secret recipe below. However, the other thing I love about cruising is that you can always make things better and the crew loves to make guests happy. That is true on almost every cruise I've taken with Carnival and it is certainly true the night we took Carnival's Warm Chocolate Melting Cake to the next level by adding melted peanut butter!

One of the secrets of cruise food in the main dining room is that even if something isn't on the menu, you can often get it anyhow. No, I'm not asking for Prime Rib on a night where that's not being served. Rather, things like unlisted ice cream flavors, cookies, and yes ... peanut butter are almost always available. I'm not sure how it happened or who the creative genius at our table was. That night however, one of our friends asked for a side of peanut butter and told the rest of us, "watch this".

Initially the server was confused - as common as Peanut Butter is for most Americans, it is as weird as marmite or Vegemite for the rest of the world. Determined to not disappoint us though, our waiter procured a small ramekin of delicious creamy peanut butter and our table mate proceeded to put a big dollop on his piping hot Warm Chocolate Melting Cake. Quickly the once firm peanut butter began to melt from the heat of the cake and our friend then took a big spoonful of both the cake and the peanut butter together. Based on his grin and our imagination running wild as to the taste, others at the table quickly asked for the same.

Since that time, it has been my absolute favorite dessert on any cruise line. It's an insider secret cruise food and now I'm sharing it with the rest of you ...
