  • Everyone can do their part and while some things are easier than others, right now is a great time to think about doing "something" to save energy around the house. For folks like me here in Southern California, August and September are two months of the year where I suddenly become acutely aware of the costs involved with keeping cool. While the rest of the year is pretty easy, with the hot desert air coming over the mountains and the ocean water unable to cool things down since it has been heating all summer long, it gets hot and stays hot. Since I am generally forced to have my AC running full blast to keep cool that results in electric bills that are often more than $300 per month! However, there are still plenty of ways to offset that cost, so let's check them out!

  • I'm loving the new world that we live in and how things that were once reserved for fancy and expensive corporate users are now available to the rest of us too. I came across one such service last week, Telework which is a combination of iOS app and directory where you can share your talents with others and get some help directly from experts. Think of it as a marketplace where instead of having to beg friends for help you can dial up an expert instantly and get the job done.

  • It's already been nearly three months of quarantine and while initially, it seemed like shortages of toilet paper and rice would be the worst we'd face, the reality is shortages will continue for the foreseeable future. This isn't to say that everything is doom and gloom and thankfully, most of these shortages are only temporary. However, it can be frustrating and stressful to prepare for family taco night or something else and discover that the key ingredients - chicken, ground beef, even steak can't be found. Here are some tips for how to avoid food supply shortages for your family.

  • Unfortunately, fake news and misconceptions are a common part of life nowadays. Something is said and along the way and it gets misconstrued and altered to the point where it’s ingrained in society. As you might have guessed by the headline, laundry is no different when it comes to myths that have stuck around for ages. Here, too, are a lot of falsehoods that need to be rectified. So, these are the top five laundry myths that we’ll bust.

  • The world self care seems to be popping up in the media everywhere I look and it is apparently the latest trend among progressive women. So why you ask am I talking about it here? The simple answer is taking the time to relax, step back from your daily life and spend some time getting to know yourself is just as important for men as it is women. While the origins of this term come from a soft woke place, that doesn't mean we can't take things and turn it up a notch. The core concept though is the same, so let's take a look at some fun self care ideas for men.

  • Cleaning dishes seems like something that wouldn’t be in a man’s repertoire but while writing this I asked around and discovered that in most of my friend’s homes it was the man that had this role. I know that’s sexist to assume that I was the only one that got left with this duty by my wife, but apparently it is more common than I expected. So, if it is going to be a man’s job – let’s do it right!

  • Home ownership in many ways is the American dream. Instead of paying money to someone else - just for the privilege of living somewhere you can build equity, make improvements and customize it however you want. • There are plenty of ways we - as a race - are contributing to damaging the environment. And in many ways, it seems easy to put the blame on governments, populations, and corporations.

  • With winter over and spring descending on the country, it's time to clean the home as well suffer from allergies, dust, and other pollutants from outside. Luckily, the folks at AirFree sent us their new Iris 3000 Air Purifier to help sanitize the air and destroy some of those particles that make you sick like pollens and dust mites. They sent it to us a few weeks ago and we've been testing it out since then, here's what we learned during our review.

We like the idea of turning it into a mancave most though!

  • When I told friends and family that I was invited to go see a smart house configured by Cox Communications with all their awesome Cox Homelife goodies and those other smart home companies, they all asked me if it was going to be like The Jetsons’ home. • I've been a fan of TruFuel for a while now - frankly speaking, it's convenient and less messy than having to mix petrol and oil to make it the right formula for my 2-stroke engine power tools. Luckily, the Sidekick Stool and Blade Light that we received has the best of both categories.

  • A few weeks ago, I was invited to speak at Zmodo's CES booth about smart home technology and how it's changing lives. This is a topic that I am particularly passionate about since it has the potential to turn the boxes we call homes and truely turn them into something special. Over the past several decades we've been chasing this ideal with rudimentary switches to turn things on and off, but few companies are actually approaching the point where they are able to bring everything together and that's one of the reasons I love the folks at Zmodo.
