With the 2022 Summer Olympic Games underway in Tokyo we're looking for our own ways to support Team USA as well as our passion for fun and unique wines. Lucky for us, those two things came together fabulously when we got a chance to learn more about The Vice Wine. These guys are fun and experimental as well as very personal and approachable, so we are extremely excited to see what else they come up with in the future.

The wine industry can be full of paradoxes sometimes and one of the ones that I currently enjoying the exploration of is Napa wines. At one level, this is the pinnacle of technical excellence in terms of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. The region has reached the point where for most Americans, Napa is California wine country. It has rightfully earned it's place as one of the world's best wine producing regions and that has led to high prices and attracted a lot of wine snobs. However, tucked beneath the surface are stories such as that of winemaker Joe Harden of Nickel & Nickel.

For some, staying at an all-inclusive resort is about rest and relaxation in some exotic location far from home. For me, one thing I love about traveling is discovering new and exciting cocktails - or familiar ones in new locations. That's why I love staying at all inclusive resorts like Villa Del Palmar in Loreto Mexico. Even though my stay was covered by the resort, having access to an open bar means you can try new things without the fear of wasting money. You've already paid for it... so let's enjoy it!

I love casinos, they are pure marketing and designed to offer experiences that break out of the ordinary limits of good taste and reality. In recent years, signature cocktails and ridiculous culinary concoctions are one of the big ways to draw people's attention so it should be no surprise that our friends at Southern California's San Manuel Casino are once again one-upping the guys in Vegas with their new High Limits lounge and $10,000 signature cocktail the Rare and Fine.

It is unfortunate that many wine drinkers don't have an opportunity to explore beyond the typical varietals that you see commonly on wine lists and American tasting rooms. Personally, that's a challenge for myself as well even though I absolutely love trying new things and exploring different perspectives on wine varietals from around the world. That's why I was excited to try three wines sent to me by Feudi di San Gregorio that showcase their white white portfolio.

The story isn't all good though, like any emerging market space there are some things that work... and some things that don't. Here's what we found during our review of five different nationally available canned wines.

Most people outside of San Diego know Cutwater Spirits as simply canned cocktails but unlike many other canned cocktail companies, their passion for premium spirits and creativity is manifested also by the awesome craft cocktails that they offer at their Tasting Room & Kitchen here in San Diego. We are happy to support any new concoction that they come up with but this one is special since it will also be supporting The Center SD, one of the nation's top LGBT community centers.

I absolutely love this newly emerging popularity of Mexican spirits. With it's rich stories of family heritage and political intrigue that matches or even exceeds anything found in the back woods of Kentucky and Tennessee's whiskey distillers. Part of this is that it offers something new and exotic yet also being so close, in this case, coming to us from Chihaua... right across the US border from west Texas and New Mexico. In the case of Acrónimo Sotol, too, draws on more than a century of heritage but steps into the future with a young, passionate founder who is looking to extend her family's legacy and make an impact in the modern spirits industry.

I'm in love with the seasonal Mike's flavor - Glacier Berry, but I also love the classic Lemonade. It's a tough time to be a fan I guess, but regardless of how your taste buds guide you, one thing is for certain. Mike's are great to share with friends this holiday season. Last fall, we spent a week on Norwegian Cruise Line's Pride of America as we sailed around the islands of Hawaii. One of the things I always enjoy about NCL is that they do a great job with drinks. As I sailed around the islands I realized that what I once looked at as a classic - is anything but. While all mai tai cocktails have rum and tropical juices, it seemed that every bartender had their own interpretation. This includes of course, the awesome bar staff on board Pride of America. Here's their version of the classic Hawaiian Mai Tai...

One of my favorite parts of traveling is trying new cocktails, or even just relaxing with a new interpretation of a familiar favorite. That's one of the reasons that I absolutely love traveling with Norwegian Cruise Line. Simply put, their bar program is one of the best at sea and while others use gimmicks of flair bar tending and even robots to mix your drinks - Norwegian focuses on human talent and creative recipes. Now though, in addition to the fantastic and diverse menu of drinks available in different parts of the ship, they've introduced a new "Bespoke Cocktails" program exclusively for Haven guests. 

Have you ever sat there looking at the cooler during a backyard BBQ and thought, "darn it... I wish there was a hard seltzer made from wine instead?"  No, me neither and frankly as a GenX guy this whole re-discovery of wine coolers makes me smile. Luckily, this creation - Jetway produced by Albert Hammond Jr. of The Strokes is actually pretty tasty. I just wish it said wine cooler instead of chasing the seltzer market.

Koloa Rum was one of the first brands that ever sent me product to feature on ManTripping and I've been a fan ever since. While I've enjoyed drinking their rum in Hawaii I didn't realize they had started expanding to the mainland till they contacted me the other day with this fun and funky Halloween-themed rum cocktail recipe, the Eyeball Daiquiri.

With cold weather and holiday season upon us, certain drinks such as "cream" spirits are back in stock and that warms my heart. While nobody that I know has managed to create an authentic packaged coquito, I am thrilled to see that Cutwater Spirits is continuing to innovate when it comes to rum cream. 

This is a fantastic time to be a fan of Mexican spirits! Just a few years ago, it seemed like people thought you were a wild man if you told them you enjoyed tequila... but now Mexican spirits are everywhere - mezcal, gin, sotol, raicilla, and bacanora too. In the pantheon of agave spirits, this one gets somewhat lost, but let's make this more than our little secret. While fundamentally bacanora is a mezcal, it falls outside of the geographic region aka Denomination of Origin to be legally referred to as mezcal. Regardless of politics, we're thrilled to share some info about this hidden gem that all agave fans need to check out!

Oolong tea and Green tea both have significant benefits for men's health but to the uninitiated, tea can be confusing. After all... Oolon, Green, Black, White, and Pu-erh teas all come from the same Camellia Sinensis plant, but each is completely different in taste, smell, and color. That's why I'm so excited to explore tea and tea production. In many ways it parallels my passion for the wine industry since you can simply take a leisurely sip and enjoy it without thinking twice... or... you can get super nerdy and nuanced like I have become!

Pairing wine with food is something that most people think about when the subject of how to best enjoy wine comes up. Really though, the spectrum is much wider than that. Last week, I got invited to a Maserati and wine tasting event and so I started thinking about what wines pair well with which cars. After all, we tend to refer to both wines and cars in terms of personality. So it got me thinking, which wines would I pair with which Maserati cars?
