2025 Kia Carnival SX Prestige

The 2025 Kia Carnival MPV continues to redefine what we expect from a minivan, blending bold SUV-like styling with family-friendly functionality. I recently had the opportunity to test drive the SX Prestige trim with the 3.5L V6 engine, and it's clear why this vehicle remains one of my favorite road trip companions, despite the "minivan" label that many men might initially shy away from.

V6 Power vs. Hybrid Efficiency: The Enthusiast's Dilemma

While the Carnival Hybrid (which I tested last fall) offers an impressive 1.6-liter turbo-hybrid engine paired with a 54kW motor producing a combined 242 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque, the gas-powered version brings something different to the table. The standard 3.5-liter V6 GDI engine delivers a robust 287 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The difference in driving experience is immediately noticeable! Where the hybrid was "sufficient" around town, the V6 brings that visceral excitement many of us crave, especially in a vehicle like this that is indisputably a family car. Acceleration is noticbly more responsive, especially when pushing out of curves on back roads. Overall it just feels more aggressive ... and the overall driving dynamics are simply more engaging.

It's the difference between a vehicle that gets you there comfortably and one that makes you take the long way home just for the fun of it.

This exhilaration comes at a cost, however. The fuel economy ratings of 18 mpg city and 26 mpg highway (21 combined) are certainly less impressive than the hybrid's numbers, 33 mpg combined (34 mpg city, 31 mpg highway). Your choice between the two will ultimately come down to personal priorities: fuel savings or driving excitement.

Road Trip Warrior

Its exceptional road trip credentials continue to make the Carnival stand out for someone like me who loves to take long trips. The visibility is excellent, providing confidence on unfamiliar highways... The comprehensive tech and safety features make long drives both easier and safer.

I just absolutely love how this vehicle looks driving around, especially during this test drive when it was very foggy at night by the beach. The fog created this mystical atmosphere that made the Carnival look even more special than it already is... The LED lighting cutting through the mist and highlighting its strong, SUV-inspired lines created an almost cinematic experience.

Kia's Highway Driving Assist (HDA) system continues to impress me to no end. In fact, both Kia and Hyundai (the companies share a very similar setup with the head-up display and HDA) have gotten this technology so right that it almost makes me avoid even considering any other manufacturer for long road trips. The system's intuitive nature, combined with the excellent head-up display, creates such a seamless driving experience that it genuinely reduces fatigue on those extended journeys.

The SX Prestige trim has driver assistance features including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, and Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go... These systems work together seamlessly, further enhancing the vehicle's road trip credentials.

One practical advantage over larger SUVs is the Carnival's accessibility. The lower floor height makes loading gear effortless... The power sliding doors are a game-changer when unloading a group of guys in tight parking spaces at sporting events or adventure destinations.

Premium Interior Experience

Step inside the SX Prestige, and you're greeted by a tech-forward cabin featuring dual 12.3-inch displays, leather seat trim, and a Bose premium audio system. The Dark Edition gives the vehicle a more masculine aesthetic with darkened exterior accents and wheels that set it apart from standard minivans.

On ours it was refreshing to see a vehicle that traditionally can be very conservative feature orange leather trim. Again, making you feel like you're driving something sporty instead of a family car.

This particular model also comes equipped with the Rear Seat Entertainment Package ($2,500), featuring a dual-screen rear seat entertainment system, and the SX Prestige Seat Package with 7-passenger seating, power second-row seats with leg support, and heated and ventilated second-row seats... For road trips with friends, these features transform the rear cabin into a first-class experience that rivals much more expensive luxury vehicles.

The Tariff Elephant in the Room

At the time of this review, the sticker price of $55,255 represents solid value considering the premium features and versatility offered... However, it's worth noting that this vehicle has 95% Korean parts content and is manufactured in Gwangmyeong, Korea, potentially subjecting it to upcoming tariff increases.

With proposed tariff modifications as recent as May 3rd, buyers could see price increases from $5,000 to potentially $10,000 in the near future... If you're considering this vehicle, the uncertain pricing landscape might make sooner better than later for making a purchase decision.

Power vs Efficiency: A Road Tripper's Choice

The 2025 Kia Carnival SX Prestige with the V6 engine presents a compelling case for men who appreciate both performance and practicality... The V6 delivers that satisfying surge of power and driving engagement that the hybrid version, while more economical, simply can't match... The Carnival's ability to redefine expectations remains consistent across both powertrains, offering SUV styling with minivan convenience.

The technology package—particularly that stellar HDA system—makes this vehicle a standout choice for long-distance travel... Those sliding doors and flexible interior configurations provide practical advantages that traditional SUVs can't touch... The premium amenities ensure everyone travels in comfort.

With tariff uncertainties looming and potentially significant price increases on the horizon, now might be the ideal time to experience this versatile people-mover... Just be sure to test drive both the hybrid and V6 versions to determine which balance of efficiency versus excitement better aligns with your lifestyle... Either way, the Carnival continues to prove that practical transportation doesn't have to sacrifice personality.
