Dallas is more than "just a city" it is a unique geo-political destination that like Los Angeles would be better thought of as a collection of smaller cities surrounding a central point. That might be a weird way to look at it but while I once looked at "Dallas" as a place to go for a guys getaway, I've started to think of the destination in terms of cities like Fort Worth, Irving, McKinney, Allen, and Lewisville instead. Not only would any of these destinations make for a great excuse to get a taste of Dallas ... but even folks who live in the metroplex can easily travel to someplace new for a sort of guys getaway staycation experience.

It's easy to get caught up in the rat race of life and forget about all the great things that Dallas has to offer. There are so many different cities around Dallas that would be perfect for a guy's staycation. This blog post will explore five different cities located around the metroplex where you could enjoy some time away from work with your buddies!

Fort Worth

Fort Worth is the "other half" of the namesake airport and it is sometimes overshadowed by Dallas but is probably one of the most exciting destinations for a Texas-sized guys weekend. From huge steak dinners and some of the area's best BBQ to authentic cowboy culture, this is the spot to go if you want to experience what made the region famous.

Some highlights we recommend you checking out in Fort Worth include:

Fort Worth Stockyards

National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame

Derek Allan's Texas BBQ

Irving

At first glance, Irving, Texas looks like it might just be a huge office park but it is a distinct community offering a wide range of awesome opportunities for a great guys getaway. We had a blast exploring Irving with some of our blogger friends a few years ago when we stayed at the Marriott Las Colinas and can't wait to go back again soon!

Some highlights we recommend you checking out in Irving include:

Gondola Adventures

Toyota Music Factory

Po Melvins Cajun Restaurant

The Ranch at Las Colinas Steakhouse

McKinney

While other choices on our list are more focused on high-energy destinations, McKinney, Texas is a more laid-back destination perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine or craft beer. McKinney is charming destination and has a center of town steeped with history as well as plenty of natural outdoor areas to explore.

Some highlights we recommend you checking out in McKinney include:

North Texas Wineries:

Landon Winery

Lone Star Wine Cellars

Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

Arlington

While you can certainly visit the sports arenas found in Arlington while staying in other parts of Dallas, it should be noted that this is home to AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, and also Six Flags. Additionally, Arlington, Texas is home to some of the area's best breweries.

Some highlights we recommend you checking out in Arlington include:

AT&T Stadium

Globe Life Field

PBR bar at Texas Live!

Lewisville

Lewisville, Texas is located along Lewisville Lake, a reservoir that was completed in the 1950s and so this has made it a fantastic destination for fishing and watersports in the Dallas Metroplex.

Some highlights we recommend you checking out in Lewisville include:

Bendt Distilling Co
