  • Unveiling The Truth: Are Plant-Based Burgers Actually Healthier Than Meat?

In recent years, the demand for plant-based burgers has skyrocketed, driven by growing health concerns, environmental issues, and a desire by eco-conscious consumers to reduce damages that they see to the environment by the consumption of animal products. In addition to concerns related to sustainability, plant-based meats and plant-based meat alternatives are also increasingly popular due to perceived health benefits that are widely observed among those men who enjoy vegan, vegetarian, or indeed just a diet that is low in the consumption of red meat and high in nutrient-rich vegetables. Unfortunately, in the past these plant-based alternatives simply haven't been all that tasty. Options that existed in the past like "Bean Burgers" and "Veggie Burgers" were simply not a realistic alternative for hungry carnivores like myself. Things have changed though... meatless burgers today are much tastier but are they actually healthier than meat?

  • Let's Grab Some Grilled Wings And Steak Bites At Bub's At The Ballpark

Every great ballpark deserves an equally great place to go before, after and well... this is the San Diego Padres here, so during a game where it's better to drown your sorrows in cold pints of craft beer and smoking hot grilled wings. That's what Bub's delivers. It's probably the best sports bar in San Diego and a place we like to frequent even when the Padres aren't playing.

  • The Smoking Gun San Diego: BBQ, Cocktails, And Fun

Sometimes you just walk by a place and have no idea what you've been missing. That was the case up until a few days ago with The Smoking Gun in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter. I live just a few blocks away and have walked by the place regularly, without stopping in. On the outside it looks like just any other "hipster bar" downtown but what we found inside was surprisingly good quality cocktails, a very creative menu and a great atmosphere that I can't wait to return to sometime soon.

  • Holy Grail Steak Co. Takes Mail Order Beef To The Next Level

There are a LOT of meat delivery companies out there right now and frankly not all of them are awesome. I've tried my share of them and when they offer something special, I like to share it with you guys. One that I've absolutely fallen in love with is Holy Grail Steak Co. While other companies offer a handful of different cuts, these guys go deeper. To learn more about the company, we also had the chance to talk with Cameron Hughes, the founder of the company as well as multiple California wine businesses.

  • How To Cook The Perfect Steak - Tips From Omaha Chefs

Cooking the perfect steak can be a challenge and even more so at home. While there are world-famous steakhouses all across the country, there's something enticing about going back to the source and enjoying a steak without the pretense you might find in cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. We did a virtual steak tour of Omaha, Nebraska recently and let me tell you - my mouth is still watering!

  • How Much Does Premium Meat Really Cost a Family

It's been a pleasure being an Ambassador for Perdue Farms during these past few months. I'm a big fan of premium products and since I was a kid, Perdue Farms has always represented something special. As a young man I didn't really understand my mother's shopping patterns and I was insulated from the sacrifices that my parents made to make sure that the food they served my sister and I was always the highest quality possible. Now as an adult myself and especially in times like this where frankly food and paychecks are both completely lacking in certainty the choice of paying for food that I know is simply better vs the one that is cheaper comes to mind weekly while filling out my delivery order. Should I go for that cheap ground beef or keep buying that one that I know had ethically raised animals by family farmers right here in the United States?

  • How To Make The Perfect Restaurant Quality Strip Steak At Home

It's been too long since I've been able to enjoy the sizzle of a piping hot, perfectly cooked steak brought to my table. Sure, there's delivery and pickup available but by the time my steak gets home it just isn't the same. Luckily I have the solution to creating the perfect restaurant-quality steak at home and I'm about to share it with you guys...

  • I Just Ate a $100 Steak at Greystone Steakhouse San Diego

In the world of steak, sometimes bigger is better and other times it is all about being ridiculous and over-the-top. This $100 steak at Greystone Steakhouse in San Diego's Gaslamp firmly belongs in that second category. The 3oz Japanese Wagyu steak comes topped with 24 karat gold flakes, hand shaved black truffle and is served on a slab of fine marble.

  • Black Angus Is Not Your Typical Chain Steakhouse

Father's Day is coming up and I think I speak for most men and we'd love a great big hunk of meat for dinner. There's a wide spectrum of options out there today from high-end steakhouses to grabbing a steak at the diner down the street but the middle space seems filled with marginal options. Sure, these chain restaurants are good but inevitably they miss the mark when it comes to quality, preparation, and atmosphere. That's why I was truly surprised after my visit to Black Angus Steakhouse here in San Diego earlier this week. Despite being part of a chain that's operated in the western United States for more than 50 years it felt like an independent location with good quality food and a fun atmosphere that while kitschy - felt genuine.

  • The Ranch at Las Colinas - Texas Steakhouse Done Right

Texas is known for being big and over the top, so I don't know why I was surprised to see a real live Texas Long Horn bull out front of The Ranch at Las Colinas when we arived. Not only was this cool to see, but it was there as a photo op for kids (of all ages!) to sit on as they took your photo. The bit of morbidity that you are quite literally playing with your food before dinner aside, this set the tone for one of the best steak dinners that I've had in a long while.

  • An Endless Parade of Meat at Texas De Brazil San Diego

Rodizio style Brazilian steakhouse restaurants are my absolute favorite style of dining. It combines everything I love in a culinary experience - endless meat, a variety of flavors, and that sense of being special. Over the past few decades the Churrascaria concept has spread rapidly in the United States and Texas de Brazil is one of the biggest operators to offer this experience. Now they've added Carlsbad, San Diego to their list of more than 50 locations world wide. They invited us to stop by and try their interpretation on the concept and we loved it!

  • True Story Organic Sausages and Hot Dogs Are Delicious

I don't go green or organic unless it tastes good. The thrill of labels simply doesn't matter to me... but when it's delicious AND organic, that's when I get excited. When True Story Foods contacted me and offered to send over some of their products to check out, how could I refuse. A few weeks later they filled my fridge with organic hot dogs, sausages, deli meats, and pork - all gluten free, dairy free, soy free, nitrate free and a free of a bunch of other stuff. What it wasn't free of is taste and quality.

  • Not Your Dad's Steakhouse - STK San Diego

I love a classic steakhouse. You know, the ones with dark leather booths, heavy shadows, and classic bourbon cocktails. STK San Diego is is not that kind of place! From the moment you walk in, it is very clear that this is not your dad's steakhouse. Instead, it's hip, light, and lively. There is even a DJ on some nights furthering the lounge atmosphere and the cocktails match this chic and trendy environment. Don't be fooled though - while it feels like a cocktail bar, the menu still offers huge steaks and classic sides. There's a sense of youth and urban energy here compared to the uber masculinity of a traditional steakhouse but it hasn't lost touch with why you ultimately chose to spend hundreds of dollars on an amazing meal. This vibe perfectly matches Andaz San Diego hotel where it is located and it is a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

  • Sinatra's Menu Favorites from Golden Steer Steakhouse Las Vegas

Las Vegas has been a foodie town for generations and despite the fancy new places that open up every week, there are still some classics left in town like the Golden Steer Steakhouse. Founded in 1958, it saw the golden years of "Old Las Vegas" and a list of celebrities a mile long, including: Frank Sinatra, Muhammad Ali, Tony "The Ant" Spilatro, Natalie Wood, Nat "King" Cole, Joe DiMaggio, Elvis Presley and Mario Andretti. In 2009 Bon Appetit Magazine even featured it in their feature, "The Best Steaks On Earth." Now, they are revealing some of their famous recipes and we've got a few samples to share!

  • How to Eat Blue Crab and Not Miss an Ounce of Crab Meat!

Blue crabs are a delicacy that is often synonymous with Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay areas of Virginia. In reality though, pretty much everywhere along the East and Gulf Coasts of the United States where you can find coastal marsh land there will be crabs. This includes the Peace River in Punta Gorda Florida where Peace River Seafood is found. As I sat there with the owner shucking oysters, popping tails off shrimp and picking meat from crabs fresh caught that morning, it brought back childhood memories of doing the same. Unfortunately, not everyone is as privileged as I was to have grown up with fresh crabs, so here's a primer on how to eat blue crabs...

  • Understanding the Difference Between BBQ Rub, Marinade and Sauce

Summer is almost here and we've got a few months of outdoor grilling, tailgating and homegating in front of us. As men we are expected to be masters of the grill and while an important part of that is understanding how to "cook" the meat... it's equally important to know how to prepare that meat before cooking it.

When getting ready to grill, there's really three main ways to go - Rub, Marinade, or Sauce. Do you understand the difference though? This is a subject that deserves to be explored a bit, so let's look at how the preparation affects the way the meat tastes and looks on the other side.
