Guys Trips Ideas In Florida

florida beer everglades

Florida is the state I keep circling back to from different angles. I've cruised out of multiple ports, driven the Gulf Coast, and spent enough time in Tampa's Ybor City to know where to find a hand-rolled cigar and a Cuban sandwich worth arguing about. Cruise ports everywhere, fishing in every region, golf year-round, and Panhandle beaches most guys overlook — Florida earns its spot.

Where to Go in Florida

Florida's guys trip geography runs from the Panhandle's military aviation heritage down through the Gulf Coast cigar and beer culture, across the theme park corridor, and into South Florida's nightlife and cruise terminals. Seven cities have their own pages — start with the one that fits your crew.

Tampa

The Tampa guys trip scene anchors around Ybor City, the historic cigar district where hand-rolled cigars have been made since 1886. Bucs and Lightning game days, a craft brewery corridor, and a cruise port for Caribbean departures make it the city where a bachelor party and a father-son fishing trip work in the same zip code.

Miami

South Beach nightlife gets the attention, but Miami's guys trip depth goes beyond the clubs. PortMiami is the busiest cruise port in the world, Wynwood's street art and brewery district keeps growing, and deep-sea fishing puts you on sailfish within an hour.

Orlando

Most guys write off Orlando as a family destination, but the craft beer scene rivals Tampa's, Port Canaveral is 45 minutes east for cruise departures, and Kennedy Space Center alone is worth a day.

Fort Lauderdale

Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale handles over five million cruise passengers a year. Beyond the ships, Las Olas Boulevard is the dining strip and the Intracoastal Waterway offers yacht charters and fishing with a more upscale feel.

Pensacola

Pensacola surprises people — home of the Blue Angels at NAS Pensacola, the free National Naval Aviation Museum, and white sand beaches that consistently rank among the best in the country.

Key West

The end of the road — literally. Key West delivers the Duval Street bar crawl, Hemingway history, sunset at Mallory Square, and flats fishing good enough for a father-son trip you'll both remember.

Kissimmee

South of Orlando, Kissimmee is the vacation rental hub where groups can split a house with a pool for less than two hotel rooms. Airboat tours on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes and proximity to the theme parks make it the budget base camp.

What Florida Does Best

Florida punches in four categories that matter for a guys trip, and the variety means different crews find completely different trips in the same state.

Cruise Ports

No state comes close. Seven cruise ports — PortMiami, Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, Port Tampa Bay, JAXPORT, the Port of Palm Beach, and Key West as a port of call. Three of the busiest in the world are here. The pre- and post-cruise city days are half the fun.

Fishing

Offshore billfish out of the Keys, inshore redfish around Tampa Bay, deep-sea charters out of Destin — the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village" — and freshwater bass on Lake Okeechobee. Every region has its own fishing identity.

Golf

More courses than any other state, playable year-round. Resort courses in Naples and Palm Beach, public tracks in every metro area. A golf weekend is always on the table.

Cigars and Craft Beer

Ybor City was once the cigar capital of the world, producing half a billion hand-rolled cigars a year at its peak. The tradition survives on 7th Avenue. The craft beer scene has matured statewide — Cigar City Brewing in Tampa, Funky Buddha in Oakland Park, and dozens more from Pensacola to the Keys.

When to Go

October through May is the sweet spot — warm without the punishing humidity, outside the worst of hurricane season. Spring training runs February through March with a dozen MLB teams in stadiums small enough to hear the dugout chatter. Fall brings NFL football across four cities and college gamedays at Florida, Florida State, and Miami. Summer works if you stick to water and evening plans, but expect afternoon thunderstorms daily.

More Florida Guys Trip Ideas

Beyond the cities, these are the experiences worth building a weekend around.

  • Everglades airboat tours — high-speed runs through the River of Grass spotting gators, outfitters on both the Miami and Naples sides.
  • Daytona International Speedway — the Daytona 500 in February and Bike Week in March, with track experiences running year-round.
  • Panama City Beach — the Panhandle's party beach, pairs well with a Destin or Pensacola road trip.
  • Destin harbor fishing — charter a half-day offshore trip and bring your catch to a harbor restaurant that will cook it for you.
  • Silver Springs kayaking — glass-bottom clarity with manatee sightings in the cooler months.
  • St. Augustine — the oldest city in the country, with a craft distillery scene and the Castillo de San Marcos.
  • Amelia Island — golf resort destination near Jacksonville with a quieter, upscale feel.

Other States Worth Exploring

Florida connects naturally to the Gulf Coast and Southeast corridor. These states extend the trip in different directions.

  • Georgia — if Tampa's sports weekends got your crew fired up, Atlanta delivers five pro teams plus the SEC Championship, and Savannah adds a laid-back coastal vibe.
  • Alabama — Gulf Shores and Orange Beach pick up where the Panhandle leaves off, same white sand at lower prices and thinner crowds.
  • Louisiana — if the Ybor City cigar and cocktail culture appealed to your crew, New Orleans takes that energy to another level with Frenchmen Street jazz and crawfish boils.

These are the official tourism sites for some of our favorite Florida destinations:

Florida is the state where you could run a different guys trip every year for a decade and never repeat yourself. Start with the cruise port that fits your schedule, add a city day on either end, and let the fishing or the cigar shops fill the gaps. If your crew has never done the Panhandle — that's the part of Florida most guys don't know about, and it's worth the drive.
